Manuscript requirements
• The heading of the article is filled as follows (it is recommended to use the headings of articles of the latest issues of the Journal as a sample). The title of the article is given first (in lower case, bold), followed by the authors (the initials followed by the last name). Then indicated are the names of organizations and email address of the author who will be in contact with the editorial office. In the Russian-language part they are followed by an abstract, and in the English-language part – by a brief summary. The abstract in Russian and summary in English are followed by keywords in Russian and English, respectively.
Abstract, summary (in English) and keywords
• Abstract (7-10 lines) should reflect the topic, purpose of publication and subject matter. It is necessary to briefly describe the scientific result obtained (“It is shown …”, “It is established …”, etc.) and indicate the scope of use of the results. The abstract of the article should not contain references to sections, formulas, figures, abbreviations, numbers of cited literature.
• Keywords (5-8 words) should reflect the main content of the article, repeat the terms from its text and preferably should not repeat the terms used in the title of the article. In this case, keywords are allowed in the form of phrases consisting of no more than three words (for example, ocean surface temperature).
• Summary is a brief content of an article of at least 20 lines and should be understood without reference to the publication itself as a source of information independent of the article. It should meet the following criteria: information value (without broad terms); meaningfulness (reflect the main content of the article: tasks of the work, methods, main research results); consistency. Abbreviations are not allowed in Summary. Translation of Summary into English should be of high-quality, using English specific terminology, and should not be an extended version of the Russian-language abstract (if necessary, explanations of research specifics for a foreign reader should be included as well).
Text materials
• The text should be in Microsoft Word format (* .doc or * .docx).
• The text should be unformatted: left alignment, no paragraph indention, no tabulation, hyphenation off, font only normal (except for the author’s bold or italics and italic Latin letters used to indicate values), maximum one space between words, no spaces between brackets and their contents, similarly for quotation marks. Forced hyphenation of words and lines is unadvisable.
• The main text should be typed in standard Times New Roman font (size 14), some Greek and other special symbols – in the Symbol font.
• The fractional part of numbers should be separated from the integer by a comma, not by a full stop.
• One should distinguish between the punctuation mark dash (“long dash”: for example, T – air temperature) and the spelling hyphen (“short dash”: for example, blue-green). When designating the interval, a dash is used without spaces (for example, 10-15).
• To indicate negative values, the «minus» sign should be used (average dash (-), for example, –5 °C), which is typed without space before the numbers following them. A full stop is used as a multiplication sign; the sign × (but not the letter “x”) is used to denote the operation of vector multiplication, to indicate the overall dimensions, the scale of the grid (for example, 2×2°) and in some other cases.
• Space is not used between the signs of angular degrees, minutes and seconds and the values to which they relate. When using a symbol for the temperature scale (°C, F, K (Latin!) it is separated by a space from the value to which it refers. A space is also placed between the percent and ppm signs and the values to which they refer.
• When entering dates, a space is required between the year and its abbreviation (in Russian)
• Units of measurement are separated from their values by a space.
• When specifying the areas and volumes, it is necessary to use the appropriate degree indicators (m2 and m3), and not abbrevations (sq. m and cubic m).
• Roman numerals are typed in capital Latin letters: I, V, X, M, C. The use of the Latin letter Y, as well as the Russian letters П and Ш, is unacceptable.
• Do not use the number 0 and the letter O in superscript as a symbol for the degree °.
• It is not allowed to use the characters N, O, S, W as an indication of latitude and longitude, both in the text and on the maps.
• Only French quotation marks « »/ “” are used as quotation marks.
• As a sign of value interval if one or both limits of this interval have negative values, use the sign … (e.g., temperature was –5 … –10 °С).
• When using commonly used abbreviations, one should remember that the full stop is not used in the following abbreviations: hours – h, minutes – min, seconds – s, millions – mln, billions – bln, tons – t.
• The following abbreviations of academic degrees are used (in English): Сand. Sc. (Physics and Mathematics, Geography, Engineering, Biology, Agriculture, Geologу and Mineralogy, Chemistry, Law, etc.); Dr. Sci. in Physics and Mathematics. (etc.).
Tables
• Tables (numbered and entitled) are placed after their first mentioning. Tables should be in Microsoft Word format in Times New Roman font. When typing the text, all requirements related to the main text apply. Moreover, the following requirements apply to the tables:
– any textual information (except for list items) should begin with a capital letter,
– the lack of information in the cell is indicated by a long dash;
– when the one word information is first repeted in the vertical column, the symbol “ is placed in the following cells. If the information consists of two or more words, the words “as above” are inserted in the following cell, and in the second and subsequent repetitions – the symbol “;
– when typing long (vertical) tables, duplicating the table headings on a new page is optional;
– tables should have dividing lines according to the following rules: horizontal and vertical dividing lines – in the header of the table, only vertical dividing lines – in the rest of the table. The Russian title of the table should be followed by its name in English. Templates of the tables are provided in Appendix 1.
Formulas
• Formulas should be typed in MathType (Design Science) formula editor for the latest versions of Microsoft Word. Using the built-in formula editor in the latest Word versions is unacceptable.
• If any formulas are inside the paragraph, the so-called mixed typing (when part of the formula is typed in text typing mode, and another – in formula editor mode) is strongly forbidden. For single characters in the text only a text set should be used.
• Typing of formulas in the text-typing mode is justified only in the case of typing expressions of trivial standard functions, variables, linear dependencies, constants, axis designations. In all other cases, the use of a formula editor is preferable.
• In formulas Russian letters should be typed in direct font, Latin letters – in italics, Greek letters – in direct type, trigonometric functions (sin, cos, lg, etc.) – in direct type. Before typing a formula in the editor one should set the necessary text styles and determine the size of the characters. Basic fonts – Times New Roman, Symbol, size 11.
• A formula is usually typed in a separate paragraph. If necessary, following the formula, one of the syntactic characters (. , ; ) is given in the typing mode, without a space and after the space the number of the formula in parentheses is given.
• The numbers of the formulas are given on the right at the end of the line and only those that will be referenced afterwards.
Illustrations
• Figures are not included in the text of the article, instead, they are given in separate graphic files indicating the title of the article, the author. their numbers in the text given after the article. а под статьей ее номера в тексте.
• Illustrations for the article are prepared in any graphic editor or program available to the author. Moreover, each illustration is presented as a separate file in one of the graphic formats: * .jpg, * .tif, * .eps, * .cdr, * .wmf, * .ai, * .xls. Illustrations in Word documents should have the stated below resolution and size. All illustrations should be uniform (font, lines) in style.
• Raster illustrations should have a resolution of at least 1200×900 pixels (i.e., approximately 100×75 mm at a resolution of 300 dpi). For illustrations in vector format (drawings in Corel Draw format, Adobe Illustrator or files exported in wmf format), only standard Windows fonts (Times, Symbol) should be used. Drawings made in Corel Draw should be saved in the format of versions X6 or earlier. In addition, the following requirements are imposed on illustrations.
– The inscriptions along the axes are capitalized in Roman letters, size 10. (e.g.: Humidity, %) The preferred option is the designation (e.g.: f %).
– The decimal when digitizing the axes – only a comma, the font for digitizing is the main font of the article (Times New Roman), size 10, only normal.
– Graphic legends are given in free lower corner of the figure (otherwise, in any free part of the figure). The numbers are in italics. The interpretation of the legend (if any) is placed in the figure caption (required), in which it is desirable to separate the actual name of the figure from the explication – explanations for it (decoding of symbols, for example: 1 – May, 2 – June, etc.), which should begin on a new line.
– In case of several figures under the same number, each of them should be assigned an index in its left corner (otherwise, above it) – italic Russian letter with a bracket: a), б), в), etc. (Times New Roman, size 10).
– Figures should not have frames. The thickness of the curves and axes should be at least 0.5 points, not exceeding one point. Below the Russian name of the figure there should be stated its name in English. Templates of figures are given in Appendix 2.
